Accomplishments
NCAC-1 provides reviews of North Central projects. We evaluate existing projects and new projects and recommend renewal, termination, or initiation. The committee is made up of heads of the respective crop and soil science departments. As such, we know the members of the various projects and have a broad perspective on the intended outcomes of each project.
As a result of committee review and assessment, projects have been required to maintain a focus on accountability with regards to reporting and meeting objectives. On the rare occasion where a project has shown little or no activity, the NCAC-1 committee has recommended either termination, merging with a similar committee or a 1 year extension in order to allow the project to do a self assessment and provide evidence of relevancy.
Most reviews result in some recommendations by the NCAC-1 membership, thus ensuring that these projects are relevant, viable, and productive.
Impacts
- The NCAC-1 committee, through extensive reviews and group discussions of regional projects, has ensured that relevant findings and other ancillary information provided by the respective committees are placed in NIMMS and made available to the scientific community. This information is reflective of regional approaches to numerous scientific issues and should find benefit with a wide spectrum of potential users.
