Station reports were conducted by each participant who was present at the meeting. Individuals representing multi-state groups (NC2172, W3191, NC1171) and journals related for behavioral economics (Family and Consumer Sciences Research Journal, Journal of Financial Counseling Planning, Journal of Human Sciences and Extension) presented information about current research and what editors are looking for in manuscript submissions. Current project goals were reviewed. Goals for the next year were discussed. No officer elections were held because terms had not expired for current leadership. Elizabeth Kiss, Kansas State University, is currently the chair of the committee (term 2016 – 2021). Lorna Wounded Head, South Dakota State University, is currently the secretary for the committee (term 2016 – 2021).

Accomplishments

Output – The major purpose of NCCC052 is to facilitate collaboration among family economics researchers nationally and internationally.

Outcomes/impacts:

  • Support various work groups that focus on specific issues related to consumer economics. NC-1172 and NC-2172 sponsored by NCCC052 was very active in researching the nature of saving. The NCCC052 team will continue to look for opportunities to sponsor specific research teams that focus on emerging issues in the field of consumer economics.
  • Develop research briefs of the methodology and implications of research in consumer economics for online posting via the Personal Finance Research Briefs page of eXtension.
  • Group members will promote national events such as America Saves week, Money Smart week, National Retirement Planning week, and other local or regional programs that support consumer financial literacy.
  • Meet on an annual basis to share cutting-edge research being done by members of NCCC052.

Impacts

  1. Promote rigorous and relevant research and set research priorities for multi-state and national work on issues germane to the economic well-being of families.
