Accomplishments

The theme of the Spring 2009 NECC 63 meeting was "Promotion Through Consumer Information on Food Credence Attributes." Following a plenary session that included presentations on federal policy issues and current challenges facing industry relating to commodity promotion, there were four sets of concurrent sessions: Session I - Organic and rbst-free Foods and Session II - Food Labeling and Promotion; Session III - Animal Welfare and Session IV - Country of Origin Labeling; Session V - Disease Outbreak Impacts and Session VI - Health Promotion, Nutrition Labels, & Health Claims; and Session VII - Organics, Quality Reputation, and Brand Names and Session VIII - Quality Assurance. There were a total of 30 presentations during the concurrent sessions. The attendance of the meeting included 50 researchers and decision makers from the private and public sectors. In addition, there were representatives from four countries in addition to the US. This project continues to allows a critical level of synergy among academic researchers, governments agencies and industry practitioners.
