Objectives
-
Investigate the biology and ecology of insect pests of peanuts, and develop effective management strategies for these peanuts.
-
Examine alternative methods of peanut insect control, such as the use of biological control organisms, diseases, host plant resistance and cultural tactics.
-
Develop, refine and validate predictive systems for anticipating pest outbreaks.
-
Study the role of biological control agents in the regulation of arthropod pests in peanut.
-
Develop comprehensive economic thresholds for arthropod pests in peanut.
-
Investigate virus/plant interactions relative to symptom expression, effect on yield, transmission efficiency of thrips, effect of virus strains, and environmental influences on plant responses.
* Output: These studies will be published in numerous refereed publications and the research findings will be utilized to upgrade the current virus management approaches and to revise the published virus index extension materials.
Objective 7; Create and maintain a website for the committee.
Objective 8; Evaluate the status and future needs of multistate collaboration in extension program development.
