Accomplishments
Statement of Issues and Justification:
Nanotechnology holds great promise for many fields of agriculture and was the focus of a recent planning workshop at USDA (Nanoscale Science and Engineering for Agriculture and Food Systems, 2003). For the first time, the USDA-NRI is sponsoring a competition for funding research in this area. Numerous Agricultural and Biological Engineering Departments at Land Grant Universities have added expertise in the growing field of nanotechnology and biosensors, but most of us have not developed a critical mass of expertise on our campuses. This speaks to the potential for a NCT committee to bring together expertise and foster the interaction between multi-disciplinary scientists and our industrial clientele groups. Dr. Vince Bralts at Purdue and Dr. Ajit Srivastava at Michigan State are prepared to take the lead in working with faculty to prepare a formal proposal for consideration as a NC or NCR committee should the NCT be approved by the multi-state research committee.

Objectives

1. To meet to exchange information and coordinate activities related to nanotechnology and biosensors.
Publications
