The meeting dates for the 2018 annual meeting of NC-1177 multi-state research project “Agricultural and Rural Finance Markets in Transition” are set for October 9th and 10th in St. Louis, Missouri. Details regarding housing and meeting registration will be distributed in mid-August.<br /> <br /> Call for Papers<br /> <br /> The NC-1177 executive committee is currently seeking contributed papers for selected paper sessions in the area of agricultural and rural financial markets with an emphasis on policy-relevant research topics. Papers that meet one or more of the committee’s four research objectives are highly preferred. The research objectives are:<br /> <br /> 1. Examine key trends in farm income, land values and cash rents, commodity prices and input costs and the factors that explain the farm sector’s downturn.<br /> 2. Evaluate the effects of the declining farm income on the long-run viability of farm businesses and the broader regional economy.<br /> 3. Identify current policies that affect farm incomes and discuss how these policies and potential alternatives address the challenges of an era of declining farm income.<br /> 4. Examine the role of agricultural lending in challenging agricultural economic conditions and address how lenders cope with deteriorating farm financial positions.<br />
