Accomplishments

A very successful semi-annual conference was held March 25-26, 2004 in Baltimore, Maryland. The conference was titled, "Structural Change in Commodity Checkoff Programs: Impacts and Opportunities." The objectives of the conference were: (1) Assess changes in economic structure of producers and the food supply chain; (2) Identify and examine impications for commodity checkoff programs; (3) Review and assess trends in the design of collective action organizations; (4) Provide assessment of recent evaluation studies of generic promotion programs; and (5) Provide a forum for discussion of current research and implications for managers, researchers and policy makers. It is part of a continuing dialogue among researchers, government officials and industry leaders to discuss issues and methods relating to commodity promotion activities.
