Purpose statement on NIMSS:
The purpose of this 2-year NC Development Committee is for the members to meet and prepare a full, 5-year NC multistate research project.
Meeting summary:
The committee first discussed the history of this NCDC240 and its value to advancing perennial grain agriculture. The committee agreed that this concerted, national effort is highly valuable for coordinating foundational research needed to develop perennial grain crops and conduct the research needed to ensure that they can be grown profitably and used in a range of food products. The committee noted that members had collaborated with one another for many years prior to the development of NCDC240, but this committee provided an important opportunity to share results from past collaborations and offer opportunities to support future collaborations, especially in a way that broadens participation.
The committee noted that the 2-year development phase was coming to an end and thus started to discuss the next phase of this group. Members weighed the various options for phase II including forming a NC Coordinating Committee (NCCC) or a standard NC multistate research project. The committee decided to pursue a standard NC multistate research project, and the remainder of the meeting was spent discussing the application process.
The meeting concluded after determining a timeline for the development of an NC proposal and assigning tasks to individual committee members to assist with application preparation.
