S1071 met virtually on May 25, 2021.  The objective leads and participants provided updates on activities completed for each objective. Following brief individual team member updates, the group discussed ideas for the next 5-year replacement proposal for this group. Additional details can be found in the attached minutes.

Accomplishments

Objective 1: This objective was previously completed. The framework of disciplinary core ideas for next generation science standards were published and are available at https://ufdc.ufl.edu//IR00011432/00001

Objective 2: The survey instrument previously developed to identify exemplary agricultural teachers and teaching methods was piloted in Kansas and West Virginia. The pilot test revealed a need to modify one of the questions on the instrument before further use on a broader study population. The survey instrument link has been provided to S1071 participants.

Objective 3:  The previously completed innovation configuration map has been reviewed. Stakeholder comments are being incorporated and the document being prepared for publishing and dissemination.

See attached minutes for additional details.

Impacts

  1. The framework for aligning ag, food and natural resource career pathways with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and Ag STEM disciplinary core ideas provides a tool for secondary school agriculture educators to recognize and further develop STEM content within their curriculum.
  2. The innovation configuration map is expected to enhance professional development for secondary ag teachers by providing a tool to identify ways to implement new programs and practices that further emphasize the core Ag STEM disciplinary core ideas from the framework in their curriculum.
