Achievements of W-2005

Physical activity

  • Two publications from W-2005 related to PA (Melinda Manore, D. Larson-Meyer, Anne Lindsay, Nobuko Hongu, Linda Houtkooper. (2017) Dynamic Energy Balance: An Integrated Framework for Discussing Diet and Physical Activity in Obesity Prevention—Is it More than Eating Less and Exercising More? Nutrients9:8, pages 905; plus, one in the ACSM Health & Fitness Journal) – can we build on pub success with this topic?
  • Systematic review/meta-analysis opportunity
  • This was followed by quite a bit of discussion related to need to promote integrated approach to nutrition and PA among nutrition and other health professionals and how can W-3005 contribute to this

Working Groups and Milestones for 2018, commitments and process

  • Research Group (Timeline for 2017-2018)

Proposed systematic review of systematic reviews of childhood obesity interventions.

In the next 3 months, Melanie and Scott will organize the methods of the review of reviews and work with the UA health sciences librarian to conduct the search. Laura, Enette and Diane will develop the templates of the tables we will use to organize our results. Nurgul is Communications Committee Chair. She has set up a free Zoom account for our working group. (We could use this for the bigger group call as well.)

Timeline:

  • Develop methods (Nov-Dec 2017)
  • Begin library research (prior to Dec 31 2017)
  • Conference call (Jan 2018) to discuss findings

  • Conference call (with larger group) to integrate findings (Summer 2018)
  • Writing (June-Sept 2018)
  • Submission (Oct 1 2018)

  2. Evaluate programs – develop a rubric of evaluating programs looking at what has been used

Cooperative Extensions developed programs, programs they use, and then other potential programs appropriate for use, commercially produced maybe later.
