Accomplishments

The SERA35 group engaged in formal presentation and discussion of current farm management research and extension activities in each of the states represented.  Formal topics of discussion included: economic irrigation efficiency, estimation of property taxes on forestland, equilibrium market price determination of major row crops, economic investment in on-farm reservoirs, comparative fungicide costs in rice production, use of crop insurance as a risk management tool, economics of grain drying, available options for farm machinery financing, and an update on current USDA-NASS activities.  Informal discussion focused on refinement of enterprise budget generation and the availability of input market prices.

Impacts

  1. The basic goal of this activity is to foster increased communication and collaboration among agricultural economists in the mid-South working in the area of farm management. Impacts of this effort result in better information and analysis of issues impacting farm finances being made available to producer clientele groups in the region.
