Report from USSES Meeting of July 25-27, 2007
USSES and NCCC-170 held a joint meeting on July 25-27, 2007 at Utah State University. A delightful reception was hosted by Susan Durham on Wednesday evening. On Thursday, Walt Stroup presented an excellent program on GLIMMIX. He gave many application examples and highlighted new features coming in the next release. Separate business meetings of the two groups were held on Friday morning.
USSES Meeting Minutes -
The USSES Business Meeting was called to order at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 27, 2007. Attending were Jerry Davis, Georgia; Jay Geaghan, and Kevin McCarter, LSU; Hoke Hill, Clemson; Andy Mauromoustakos, Arkansas; Jason Osborne, N.C. State; Arnold Saxton, Tennessee; Edzard Van Santen, Auburn; and Linda Young, Florida.
State reports were given. Lively discussions ensued relating to consulting staffing models, tenure issues, and funding support concerns on our campuses.
Edzard volunteered to host the 2008 USSES Meeting at Auburn with June 25-27 as a tentative date. Jason volunteered to be the program coordinator. Consensus of the group was for the program to center around more on GLIMMIX and sessions on JMP Genomics.
Tentative plans would be for us to meet in a computer lab for a hands-on workshop session. Edzard hopes to find some datasets for us to analyze with GLIMMIX and Linda will discuss radial smoothing using GLIMMIX. Andy plans to lead us in a JMP review/overview session followed by Jason presenting some JMP Genomics applications.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:55 a.m. Report submitted by Hoke Hill
