SAES-422 Multistate Research Activity Accomplishments Report

Status: Approved

Basic Information

Participants

A planning meeting was held as part of the larger Pacific Northwest Wheat Quality Council - PNW Section American Association of Cereal Chemists meeting. Discussion in the WDC010 meeting focused on whether a new western regional research and extension committee to address wheat quality issues in the PNW should be formed. There was resounding support for establishment of a new project. The end users in attendance (millers and bakers) were particularly concerned that without this project, university wheat breeders and extension agronomists would be less likely to attend the Quality Council meeting and to participate in other ways in quality-related activities. All felt that having research and extension scientists involved in quality discussions was essential to the continued improvement of PNW wheat quality. Reports from public and private wheat breeders on current activities and proposed releases were also a part of the WDC010 meeting. The attached file provides an overall agenda for the three-day meeting.
