Additional Info

Dear W4190-
I am looking forward to seeing many of you all this Fall in Kentucky, which is the best time of year to visit Red River Gorge—the Fall colors are outstanding! The dates for our meeting will be Oct. 20th – 21st, 2022. While the substantive meetings for W-4190 will occur on Thursday (10/20) all day and Friday (10/21) morning at the Natural Bridge State Park Resort, attendees should plan to arrive on Wednesday, October 19th.
The resort is a beautiful one-hour drive east of Lexington. The sun sets between 6:45-7:00 pm that time of year so I suggest you try to pick a flight with an arrival time by 5 pm-ish so you don’t miss the views and to avoid arriving to the state park after dark. Folks are welcome to rent their own vehicle to get to the resort; however, as the meeting date approaches I will collect arrival information to coordinate group transport (e.g., passenger vans). I have set a tentative start time for 10 am on Thursday morning since the majority of folks will be coming from a more westward time zone. This will also let any early risers squeeze in a walk or short hike before we start as well as accommodating anyone that arrives early on Thursday.
At the end of this email I share a tentative schedule (also attached) to give you an idea of how the administrative team (Steve Buck-President, Lucy Levers-Vice President, and Nico Quintana-Ashwell) is organizing the meeting. Last year we shortened the time allocated to State Reports during the meeting to allow time for a few presentations, organized discussions and networking. We intend to adopt a similar format this year although we have not finalized the schedule. We will send out more details in the coming weeks, perhaps with a short survey to receive feedback from you all.
The last item of business is to get a rough head count on who is tentatively planning to attend the meetings to make sure I have reserved enough rooms ($124/night - 2 queen; $134/night - 1 king). The registration fee for the conference should not be substantial--I will send this information out next month. In the meanwhile, please fill out this survey at your earliest convenience. To give people a sense of flight availability and costs around those dates, I did a preliminary check on flight schedules and airfares from a few cities—see the attached Excel spreadsheet. Lexington Bluegrass Airport is the most convenient and appears to have various flight options. Cincinnati and Louisville Airports might have more flight options, although they are both about an hour to an hour fifteen minutes from Lexington so you would likely need to rent a vehicle.
If you have any questions about the Annual Meeting, then don't hesitate to reach out to me. And if you think you would like to add some extra time on either end of your trip to explore Red River Gorge, the Bourbon Trail or even to find some office space away from home for a few days, then don't hesitate to let me know--I am happy to help.
Hope you all are well and I hope you can come join us this Fall!
Best,
Steve Buck
(510) 542-1746

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE
Annual Meeting for Multi-State Hatch W-4190

Wed (10/19):
Arrival.
