Additional Info
The annual meeting for the USDA Multistate working group NE1601, "Eastern White Pine Health and Responses to Environmental Changes," will be held June 4-6, 2019, in Northampton/Hadley, Massachusetts. Our Vision Statement: To improve our understanding of eastern white pine health issues leading to long-term sustainable management for economic and ecological purposes.

The primary purpose of this year’s meeting is to work on standardizing measurements of health problems on white pine and to develop prescriptions for silvicultural treatments to improve white pine health and productivity. The efforts will serve as a basis for a proposal to the USDA-AFRI Sustainable Agricultural Systems program, and I would also encourage that we have a goal of publishing the information as a guide for white pine management. There are a lot of good ideas and experience in growing white pine in different parts of its range, and a compilation of this knowledge into a guide will be a valuable tool for forest managers.

The meeting will be held at the Hadley Farms Meeting House (http://hadleyfarmsmeetinghouse.com/), Hadley, MA. A block of rooms, at the government rate, are available at the Hampton Inn next door to the meeting venue. The meeting will begin 1 pm on June 4 and end by noon on June 6. A draft agenda is attached. The registration cost for the 3 days is $90.

On Wednesday, June 5, there will be a field trip to view various conditions and management of white pine stands in the area. Professionals who have an interest in white pine health are invited to attend the field trip. The 1-day registration cost for the field trip will be $65.

To register for the entire conference ($90) or the field trip ($65), go to UMaine Conference Services (https://secure.touchnet.com/C22921_ustores/web/store_main.jsp?STOREID=153&clearPreview=true&SINGLESTORE=true).
