Located about an hour south of Ocean City, Maryland, Wallops conducts various types of rocket experiments as well as various types of weather monitoring missions. Wallops houses NASA's Balloon Launch program, which measures various atmospheric constituents in support of NASA's research mission. NOAA also operates an upper air balloon launch station out of Wallops Island Flight Facility, which we hopefully will be able to visit as well. Currently, NASA is testing and operating its Sounding rocket program out of Wallops Island. Combined, a great deal of upper-level data are collected, which are critical to accurate weather forecasts. Other potentially interesting work being done by NASA and NOAA scientists at Wallops include validation studies of the NASA's satellite-based Global Precipitation Mission, some cubes at work, as well as ozone monitoring technology. The tour will consist of visiting the various facilities at Wallops where they house these missions and opportunities to interact with NASA and NOAA scientists on their projects.

We look forward to seeing you in Ocean City in September!
