Additional Info

NCERA-224 Members and Friends,

For those new to the group, we are entomologists and plant pathologists with research projects on pests and diseases of woody ornamentals and perennials. CSRS funds travel for 1 or 2 representatives from each state through the state experiment station. Not all states will fund travel, but many do. We started as a North Central Regional Committee, but with a limited number of us working on ornamentals, we have expanded to include Whitney Cranshaw from Colorado, Gary Chastagner from Washington State and a few others from outside the region. We do not have a problem adding people from outside the region. We usually get together informally in the evening when we arrive, then over the next day and a half- in this case all day Monday and Tuesday morning- share research results and significant events from each state. Tuesday afternoon we will car pool with our rental cars to go to the University of Florida Tropical Research State in Homestead, about a 40 minute drive from our hotel. Catherine Mannion will host us there, showing us some of their research projects and telling us about the latest exotic pest introductions found on ornamentals in Florida.

I have reserved a block of 20 rooms at the Key Largo Hilton for 3 nights- Sunday night (arrival), Monday and Tuesday (the nights of Dec. 10. 11 and 12). I have negotiated a room rate of $209 per night, and the $25 resort fee will be waived for our group.
