Additional Info

I have reserved the Vee Bar Guest Ranch (http://veebar.com/#) off Highway 130 between Laramie and Centennial, Wyoming for our WDC40 – Endangered Species Science and Policy kickoff meeting. I attended a workshop at the Vee Bar in 2012 and found the facilities to be top rate, including excellent food service, and awesome scenery. I am also told that the Wi-Fi service has been updated and is considerably improved from my experience.

The Vee Bar Guest Ranch is located near the eastern base of the Snowy Mountain Range on the Little Laramie River. Catch and release fishing is available on the ranch as well as on an additional mile of river on an adjoining property. The Vee Bar does have some fishing equipment available (e.g., waders, fly rods, reels, some flies) for those interested. In addition, the forest grouse season in Wyoming opens on September 1 and the sage-grouse season typically opens the third Saturday of September (Sept 16 in 2017), however, I have not yet seen the regulations for these hunting seasons. Huntable populations of dusky and greater sage-grouse can be accessed close by. A quick trip to the Snowy Mountains to fish high mountain lakes or to take a hike provide excellent recreational options in mid-September. Wildlife including a diversity of birds, white-tailed and mule deer, pronghorn, and the occasional Wyoming moose are commonly viewed on the ranch.

University of Wyoming Agricultural Experiment Station was able to negotiate $80/night lodging rate (per night per person) for double occupancy rooms with a 50% deposit. I assume if you know with whom you want to share a room, let them know. Deposit is refundable within 30 days of stay. Please call 307-745-7036 or email VeeBar@VeeBar.com to make reservations for 1 to 3 nights.

Here is a preliminary schedule (a more complete agenda will follow this summer as it is developed):

Monday, September 11 – arrive. Dinner on your own. Great options in Laramie or Centennial, Wyoming
Tuesday, September 12 – full meeting day. Breakfast is included with lodging. Lunch and dinner provided at the Vee Bar
Wednesday, September 13 – half meeting day. Breakfast included with lodging. Lunch provided at the Vee Bar. Travel home or stay an extra night at the same rate.

The University of Wyoming Agricultural Experiment Station is sponsoring the meeting space, 2 lunches, breaks, and dinner on Tuesday. Hence, there will be no registration fee for the meeting.

If you are flying, you can fly to Laramie or Denver and rent a car. If you fly to Laramie, we may be able to pick you up and drive you out. Let us know if you want to utilize this option.
