PROJECT LEADERS:
Principal Investigator - R. Walton Mozingo will coordinate all research and is responsible for the overall operation of the project including collection of data and publishing annual reports for the benefits of the entire peanut industry.
Co-Principal Investigator – Thomas G. Isleib will assist with assessment of annual reports and recommendations for inclusion of NCSU breeding lines in the small- and large-plot test.
RESOURCES:
Virginia Tech - Tidewater Agricultural Research and Extension Center:
C. W. Swann (Agronomy and Weed Science), P. M. Phipps (Plant Pathology), and D. A. Herbert (Entomology) will assist with recommendations for the production of top yields of high quality peanuts for the various tests. They will also make disease or insect ratings and evaluate response to herbicides should there appear to be differences in the various breeding lines at a particular location.
Technical workers (Research Specialist, Lab Specialist, and Agricultural Supervisor) will assist with the technical aspects of data collection from field, grading, and laboratory evaluations. Seasonal employees will assist in harvesting, grading, shelling, data analysis, and publishing data.
North Carolina State University
D.L. Jordan (Extension Specialist and Weed Science), J. E. Bailey (Plant Pathology), and R. L. Brandenburg (Entomology) will assist with assessment of annual results and recommendations for inclusion of NCSU breeding lines in the small- and large-plot tests.
FACILITIES:
Project personnel will be stationed at the Tidewater Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Suffolk, Virginia and will perform all research duties. Center personnel will provide bookkeeping and secretarial assistance. Tests will be conducted at sites throughout the peanut production area of Virginia and North Carolina. All facilities needed, including grading room, pilot shelling plant, laboratory for quality evaluations, and office space, are currently in place and have been used by this project for numerous years.
